Problem: Escort 1800 Van - With No Diesel Getting To The Injectors But Fuel Pipe Clear But Can Suck Anything Thru It Either From The Tank

we have a problem with our escort diesel 1800 van which has started playing up then stopped suddenly & wont restart; fuel in tank but none getting to the fuel pump and to the injectors; i can blow down the fuel pipe to the tank but it doesnt bubble in the fuel - dont know why but if you listen at the fuel filler cap hole you can hear the pipe blowing but not bubbling; a mechanic reckons it might be the fuel pump immobiliser or chip and shook his head and is yet to turn up to help us - leaving my work van stranded (at home fortunately) - Any guidance really appreciated - I have tried everything myself I know
