Which Focus

Featured Replies

thinking of buying a mk2 facelift petrol focus.Do any of you guys reakon the 1.8 is a better buy than the 1.6.I don't want to spend 6 7k on a car to find out it's gutless(1.6).thanks in advance.

Definitely 1.8.

Does it have to be petrol as i changed from a 1.8 MK1 petrol to a 1.8 MK2 diesel and it has way more power.

1.8 diesel in a MK2 is considered the better engine to the 1.6 or 2.0 even though it's only a 8 valve as it a true ford engine wheras the others are peugeot engines and not as robust or proven.

I use a 1.8 diesel MK2.5 at work and it easily beats the petrol model for torque and acceleation.

Just a thought.

1.6 petrol will get you, from a to b ,not a great power train , 1.8 petrol is a little better . If you get a diesel then DPF is the worry there.

You will have to do the math, regarding a little more power gain against fuel costs.

Low mileage then you need a petrol.

I have a 1.6 , like i said its no power engine and as i do short trips to work and not alot of other miles , MPG is not very good either , for me a 1.8 would be even worse apart from the extra 200cc.

But saying that my boy racer days are long gone and the 1.6 is fine for me.

The 1.6 is fine on the motorway as well with enough mid range torque at 70. It will cruize all day at 90 (should you find yourself on an Autobaun). It will not have the low down grunt of the 1.8 but will give you better mpg.

Go test drive one, get a guy who will let you have a decent play with it.

I went from a 1.4 fiesta to a 1.6 focus - both petrol. and noticed a major performance difference.

my focus 1.6 petrol can overtake easily and has worked very well for me on country roads, motorway and does what I want it to without me thinking "I could do with more power".

You will also find there wont be many CHEAP 1.8 focus's about as they're sold mainly to people who bought it for use on motorways/long trips and don't plan to get rid of them any time soon so you wont be very likely to get one with low mileage.
