1.1 Fiesta Rear Brake Shoes

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a J reg 1.1 fiesta and I need to change the rear shoes. I've had a look at the rear wheels last weekend and the rear wheel hud seems to have to be completely removed to get to the brake shoes. I've tried with a lot of banging and they don't seem to want to come off.

Anyone got any tips or is it just brute force,

Cheers Tony

Do you mean the drums won't come off? Through normal wear the shoes wear a groove round the drum, so the chances are your shoes are stuck in this... A hub puller is good for this job

Thanks for the reply stef123

I've changed rear pads on other cars where the hub comes off and leaves the studs, shoes and bearings in place but on this car it appears that I have to take the centre nut off and remove the bearings first and then everything comes off and then hopefully reveals the shoes, but with the centre nut off I just can't seem to release the whole hub.

I'll have another go on the weekend, with the nut off do you think its just maybe the groove and rust thats keeping it on. If it is I'll just try hitting it harder,

cheers Tony

I've just found a link that describes how to remove the hub, there are 4 bolts on the car side of the hub that have to be undone first. I'll put the link below incase anyone else has the same problem and can't remove the hub to get to the brake shoes.
