Focus 1.8 Tdci 115 Mk1, Engine Cuts Out When Cold

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Car is a 2004 Mk1 1.8 TDCI 115 Estate.

Currently appears to have a thermostat issue as it does not get quite warm enough, just into the center region of the gauge.

Usually takes two attempts to start in very cold weather (sub 5deg C). After driving away it always cuts out at the first (very busy) junction I come too in a morning.

The engine cuts as I depress the clutch when coming to a standstill, not whilst driving.

Once 'warm' I have noticed that if I am driving and press the clutch allowing the engine to drop to idle the rev counter drops very briefly below 600rpm before recovering to around 7 or 800 rpm (if the rev counter is to be believed).

Does anyone have any ideas? Is it linked to the engine not achieving operating temperature?

I have only had the car a week so I have no idea if this is 'normal'?

Thank you all in advance.

Mark.
