New Ford Key

Featured Replies

Need a New Key for my 2002 Ford Mondeo.

few years ago i looked about for my 2007 s-max local Ford Specialist said £150 but found the key.

Any ideas on price for the Mondeo.

Ford key with 3 button's all programed etc.

Got a key for my gold last year that was about £180 all in from VW dealer.

How many keys do you have if you have a 3 button and a master key (blue dot ), then you dont need to go to Ford you can programme the key yourself so can be done for about £40 timpsons will cut a blank for you

Only got one ford key.

I added another key to my car when i got it and bought one from eBay and then got a auto locksmith to cut and code it for me.

I'm pretty sure that Fords after a certain date (not sure when - sorry) had the ability to add keys removed from the system and can only be added by programming the new ones directly to the OBD port.

I'm not sure if the key you have is a blade or tibbe key but the link below is the same key as i got from this dealer.

It works a treat but had to be programmed by the locksmith.

I got mates rates but if you ring around auto locksmiths you should find a good deal.

Seeing as you only have one key anyway, self programming if activated on your car would not be possible as for that you need 2 original keys for that (if allowed on your ECU).

Make sure though that any locksmith doing your key is actually adding it to your system and not just cloning the original one.

That can cause problems later on if so.

Only got one ford key.

Then Ford will have to programme it, nothing to stop you buying it elsewhere, but check with your dealer first, they might not want to programme a key they didnt supply, though they should IMHO

i pop down tue i no few people there.

Be aware that Ford charge heavy for keys.

I was quoted £95 for one on my old MK1 Focus plus they like to insist that the car needs to be plugged into a computer for 2-3 hours meaning extra cost, (while they have a tea break).

An auto locksmith sorted it out in 10 minutes tops.

Personal choice though.

Auto locksmith is fine if you have a master key and a 3 button key you can add as many keys as you wish

Can anyone help with key programming on a 52 KA? when the mother in law bought the car it had 1 key. I told her to get another key pronto which she did which had to be programmed (not done at dealer!). Both keys are fine. The KA has no central locking etc. I then bought a genuine Ford key thinking i could program this one my myself as I now had 2 'genuine' keys. I don't have the handbook and despite trawling the net cannot find the info on how to program. Is it possible or am I mising something?

As long as the second key was properly programmed and not cloned you should be able to program the new one.

First original key turn to ii and back- remove.

Second key ditto.

New key ditto.

That should do it. Hopefully.

Hi stoney871

I tried this sequence earlier as a guess. The led on the clock was affected as follows: Original key and second key the led flashed and then went stable but the 3rd key just kept the led flashing. I have done my focus keys so 'understand' the principle! I did think about the 2nd key, what is the difference between cloning and programming? Will a cloned key not program  ? thanks for your help :)

Just had a thought, is there a transponder in there?

If a key has been cloned then the PATS security system will only recognise it as the first one being tried twice.

To check if the transponder is present in your new key, and here I'm assuming it's a 3 button key with a horseshoe type blade fitting, pop the horseshoe off and you will see a square bit sticking out of the end of the fob.

The transponder is a small glass tube that will be sticking out slightly from the square.

If there is no transponder then Ford do them but charge a lot.

I always recommend auto locksmiths as they can supply and code keys / transponders and will charge a lot less.

The rapid flashing light is the PATS rejecting the key.

The key is the standard no button key. I have got the red top out of the key (thanks Ford not easy and will always have a removal mark now) and the transponder is there! :) I will now check with the company who 'created' the new second key to see if they cloned or programmed it - looks like a cloned key so far :(

I didn't get the master key with my car and Ford wern't interested in helping me get a spare, so I had to get my local cobbler to make a key that would only work by inserting.

O well.......
