Temp Guage And Cooling Fan

Hi.I Have a focus 1.6 zetec on a 02 plate on 72000 miles. The temp guage goes to half very quickly and stays there but a short while later,the cooling fan comes on but the temp guage just stays at half. The car interior heating warms up as any normal car from cold would. Soon as I turn the car off,obviously the fan stops but as soon as i turn ignition back on,the fan is NOT on which I thought it would be.Any ideas greatly appreciated.Ta

    Are you running with AC on?

    as AC will trigger the fan
