SMAX TDCI - High pitch noise

Featured Replies

I recently bought an SMAX 2.0 TDCI. 18 months old, with only 13K miles. Drives nice and has met my expectations except that it has a couple of odd noises.

The most irratating is a high pitched whine. You don't notice it at first especially with Sound system on and at speed. I first noticed this whine when I switched engine off. The whine continues for about half a second or so. Now having tuned my ear into it I can hear it all the time when driving the car - even with the sound system on.

It took it into Ford Deader who said it was normal - to be frank I took it for a couple of things, one of which was a loose luggage retaining bracket which they said they had fixed, but hadn't, so I don't have a lot of faith that they really knew what this noise was.

I think the noise is caused by the fuel pump. Although a little noise on overrun when switching engine off is acceptable, the elevel of noise with this one is not.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Steve
