Mondeo 1.8 turbo diesel Estate

Hi,I have an S reg 1.8 mondeo turbo diesel. On way home today the power dropped and a plume of smoke gushed out of the exhaust accompanied by a harsh rattle from the back end of the engine so called out the AA who reckoned it was a blown turbo,which i'm inclined to agree with from previous experience. How easy is it to replace on this car? i know my previous car (non ford) required the sub frame dropping to access the part. Also,is it going to be a case of finding out the make of turbo or did they only use one type on this engine? Thanks for all answers!

    its time comsuming but not too difficult. if you remove the inter cooller from the top of the engine you can easily access the turbo.

    they should only use one size of turbo on that engine - should be easy to find out the model.
