1997 Ford Ka Power Steering Gone Light

Featured Replies

Bit of an odd one this, I have a 1997 Ford KA 2.Recently, the power steering on my KA has gone very light, this lightness can be felt if travelling in the car, or turning when on stop, it doesn't seem to get worse at speed, but still remains very light and floaty feeling.

There are no untoward noises, the pump is still working, I have jacked the car up and looked at the bushes and suspension and all seem fine. Also checked the power steering fluid/pipes and all seems fine. I don't think its tracking as the wheels are wearing evenly, and this light feeling can be felt even when turning the wheel at a standstill. It feels as if the steering is over assisted, but there is no play in the steering, this has confused me a little bit, any help would be very much appreciated, as it stands I suspect that the rack itself is the main suspect?
