Fuel Economy

Featured Replies

Had a couple of hours to spare this afternoon, and fancied a casual ride out & listen to some music. Have seen some of the fuel economy rants and thought I'd turn it in to an economy run. Went from Junction 5 of the M4 to Junction 11, south on the A33 to the M3 and up to the M25, and back to M4 J5, about 80 miles. Car is 1.4 TDCI Titanium. Reset the MPG and Average Speed on the trip computer at the start. On motorway stuck to 60 indicated on the cruise control. Stuck rigidly to speed limits elsewhere. At the end, MPG was showing 69.8 and average speed 50 mph. Don't know what you all think, but I'm happy with that :)

p.s. I am aware the trip computer if a couple of MPG optimistic.

Sounds good to me! I reset my MPG trip and came home through town and it's way down to 26.9 MPG :(

I don't recall getting stopped once on that trip, only slowed by roundabouts. The few traffic lights where in my favour too. Gotta make a lot of difference keep getting stopped in town?

Yeah there were lots of stops, starts, crawling etc etc - which I know seriously affects it, and I'm probably not the most efficient driver in the world! :)

I'm quite happy to poodle about when i'm in the car. But 90% of my road time is spent on my Honda CB1300 motorcycle. Twice the power and quarter of the weight of the Fiesta. That doesn't know how to go slow :)

I'm getting around 35 MPG on 100% town driving (eg, stop start traffic) with a 1.4 petrol engine. Now i know thats miles off the claimed MPG by ford, but i don't really care :P Its a great car and we all know you wont get near the claimed mpg from ford.

I'm driving down to Brands Hatch next sunday for the first round of BTCC so that will be my Fiesta's first "big" run where i expect around 50 MPG if traffic is good :) Will report back once i've done the jouney :)

That's quite good for town driving - Edinburgh must be roadworks capital of the world, which really doesn't help things. I didn't buy the car for the fuel economy so I don't really care either, I bought it cos I liked it and am really enjoying it.

Im driving a new fiesta titanium 1.4 petrol , through towns 100% from kent into london everyday, i do about 60miles a day and am avg. about 42.9mpg through the towns, which Im really happy with and on motorways im getting just under 49mpg i think if i remember rightly.. the cruise control really helps stop the heavy foot i find, buy I been on a course to conserve fuel through driving with bp which really helps reduce my costs.
