Mondeo 5Th Gear Problem

Featured Replies

Hi Ive got a 2001 mondeo 1.8lx with 70 000 miles. Its been well looked after and in very good nick.

My problem is when trying to select fifth gear it seems to go in but when you start to let the clutch out theres a grating noise. If you select fifth gear at a standstill and slowly release the clutch it jumps out.

Is a gearbox required or could it be a linkage issue.

Any advice would be very welcome thanks

could be 5th gear worn or cable adjustment.would take it to gearbox spec to get them to confirm they would do that for free to check it

sounds like a gearbox problem I'm afraid

Definately gearbox related, slight chance that its the linkage but I am afraid you may be on the hunt for a scrap gearbox!
