Mondeo Mk3 2.0 Tdci 130 Steering Vague At Speed

Featured Replies

My steering seems to feel a little vague at speeds above 40mph. Below this everything feels fine.

When at speeds of 60-70mph the steering feels like a tooth is missing in a cog meaning you feel play of a few degrees in the movement of the steering wheel.

All of the bushes feel fine as does the suspension.

I'm wondering if it may be something to do with the power steering pump?

I have changed the power steering fluid as it was very dirty when I bought the car.

It's been like this since I've had it

Any ideas?

get both of you wheels off floor, get some one to hold steering wheel and move the wheel putting your hands in different positions on the wheel like 10 past 7 and 20 past 11.. see if there is any play in it, if there is it will be easy to find the problem whist wheels off floor...cant see it been powersteering if its working ok at other speeds
