1999 Focus 1.8 Diesel - WONT START!!!

Hi everyone...

i just bought a 1999 1.8 Focus (endura) as a non starter... the fella i bought it off had enough and wasnt willing to pay to have it fixed...

Im a Heavy Vehicle/Plant Fitter so no my way round an engine... however im not too clued up on car electronics and immobilisers etc...

I have read into this a little and the common causes of the diesel not starting seem to either be faulty fuel pump... I have a replacement pump and injectors but before i get into this i wondered if anyone has any easier ideas i can try first...

When the car is switched on, all the dials go crazy... pulsing forwards and back.... the car will turn over but wont fire... The glow plug light does not flash and the PATS light does not flash on ignition either...

A new fuel filter was fitted by the previous owner but not bled thru...

I am hoping to get a few hours in on this today and any suggestions are much appreciated before i get into changing the pump...

also will this new pump need to be coded to the immobiliser and if so... can someone like AutoElectronics do this or is it Main Dealer only...
