More Power To A Fiesta Mk3 1.1 Litre

Featured Replies

Hey guys i am just wondering how to give more power to a 1.1 Fiesta mk3 without putting a bigger engine in.I have had some ideas like a sports backbox or a K&N air filter or by putting a RS Turbo gear box on.So has anyone bothered doing anything like this if so does it work as i am looking for a way to get more power out of mine

hi robert,

i owned a mk3 fiesta for a few years and tried to go down that route of getting power out of the engine, however due to the small capacity and design its highly doubtful that you will gain anything,

i looked into modifying the original parts and price compared to performance was outweighed, i was advised to 'make best of what ive got' so basically (depending on how old the engine is etc) try and improve the existing components

for example strip down and rebuild the head, (the tappets are prone to wearing down and causing the valves to not fully open/close, air intake, i drilled my air box due to the lack of air space around the circular filter, however i did see someone modify a vauxhall air box to fit on the 3 securing screws of the fiesta and then he added a hose from a lorry and added a k&n cone filter on the end, it looked quite good and was very cheap

i vaguelly remember a crossover (i think) kit that was a different head that fitted to the fiesta, i heard that it was too expensive for the power gain

another thing ill mention is i added new spark plugs that had 4 earth electrodes on them and that improved some what

my advise for the mk3 is to modify to ensure the engine last longer, i went through 2 engines (headgaskets)

My opinion is that it would be a total waste of time/ money and the small things like intake/ exhaust etc would hardly make any difference - an RS turbo gear box is not going to make a lot of difference on a 1.1L, and would be a lot of hassle to fit for little gain (why not fit an RS turbo engine as wall THAT would be worthwhile)

The money spent modifing the 1.1 you could have fitted a 1.6/ 1,7 / 1.8 or 2.0 for cheaper - the right one would be a straight swop

Spark plugs do not increase power on their own,(zero power gain) some (colder) plugs only allow you to run leaner, a higher compression or more advance - some are less liable to foul and are more suitable for harder use
