200+ Bhp In Mk1 Escort

Featured Replies

Hi there, I am only running through some ideas but thought I'd learn a bit about how to get maximum potential from ford engines.

I am hoping to get a mk1 escort and through an engine conversion acheive 200+ bhp

Can this be acheived with a 2.0 pinto engine?

(I'm learning so be open minded with my "silly questions")

What newer DOHC engines will reach my goal?

Of course I understand I probably will need to forge bottom end, skim, port & polish, and aquire twin 40's (45s)

I'd just like to learn a bit more about it all

Reletively blank canvas, all relevent opinions welcome.

Thanks for your time

Regards, Reece

Have you considered a 2.0 Zetec conversion?

Easily acheive 200bhp with a few mods.

I have, I just don't know what I'm looking at when it comes to which one to choose etc..

I need to do some homework, I know.

What 2.0 zetec engines will fit and are known for reliability and bhp numbers?

Cheers

Not sure the chassis will take it without some reinforcement. Could you squeeze an old Cozzy engine in there?

Yeah a Cozzie engine will go in no bother, people have been fitting them in Mk1's & Mk2's for years, Anglia's too, even seen one in a Mini!

Turbo Zetec's have been built & used too, they can be more reliable than the Cozzie engine.

Have a look on www.turbosport.co.uk and check out some project threads to give you some ideas.

btmaldon makes a good point about strengthening the shell, I'd just Type-49 it & seam weld it.

Moving this thread to the modification discussion area, where its best placed :)

The pinto is an old nail, i would not bother with it, (you would need to change almost everything to get 200Hp, and they are fragile at that power, they have their followers but.... ) or the zetec, i would go straight for a YB, no messing -

a reliable 200Hp, or 300 or upto 400 if you need more

Dare I say it but what about the vauxhall c20xe or the c20let? Early units come with the better heads
