Quick Question About Tint

Featured Replies

Hi all, quick few questions about window and light tints.

first off, I'm sure the rear windows can be tinted to any level and the front screen can only go to 75%, and the driver windows to 70% (right?)

secondly, can tint be safely put on heated rear windscreens? I've read that you should place strips between the wiring but in my mk4 fiesta that would be far to much effort than I'm willing to put in. so can one big piece be safely put on rwar heated screens?

finally, can window tint be used to smoke the rear lights? also heard that the rear lights need to put out at least 50% light to pass an mot, is that also true?

thanks in advance for helping out a newbie :)

rear windows tint whatever you like, don't tint the fronts you will get pulled by the police every time you are seen with them, most cars already come with the most amount of tint you can have in the fronts legally so don't touch them, heated screens are fine with tints and google lamin-x they specialise in light tints i have mine done look good and light output is fine with them, or they is flyeye.co.uk

hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. so I'll be alright sticking a big piece of tint over the heating elements on the rear screen? and do you happen to know about using window tint to use on the rear lights?

thanks again

yh the heated screen should be fine, loads of people have retro fitted tints on heated screen, and no i wouldn't use window tint on headlights tbh but if you want you could try but i have no idea tbh rather use the proper stuff but i guess its similar tho

Tint film on a light is a no-go because it will peel and is also too dark.

Use a tinting spray instead.

E-tech branded spray is pretty good.

thanks for the advice guys really appreciate it.

I meant the tint for the rear lights though, but either way I wont be able to use a spray as I'd need to be able to take it off if a new buyer doesn't like it when I come to selling the car and also I have nowhere ideal to spray anything, but I know there is some particular light tints you can get so will have to order me some of that off the internet. thanks again guys :)

E-tech spray is fully removable.

Ebay sell the kits with prep wipes, tint spray and remover spray.

do you need anywhere particular to spray it though? cause my only hope would be a dry day but in England that's a rarity haha

had my first go with a spray can today. what do you guys reckon?

Looks like you did a good job on those. Doesn't look too dark either which is good. Where people make them look black they look a bit chavvy IMO.

75% light at the front passenger and driver. Light not tint so that's 25% tint. 75% tint on the front is illegal, way past the margin.

The car has upto 15% tint already therefore realistically you can only add 10% tint on the front and be 100% sure you will pass any road side vosa checks, those guys do carry light meters

Back and rear windows dark as you want even limo black , drivers and passenger windows light smoke only you can go darker but if the police stop you they will tell you to take them off and that's just a waste of money, no affect on heated screens you might have to do the rear window in two sections depends on the curve of the window.

If you need to remove the spray on lights you can use carb cleaner spray does the job easy, mind the paintwork though.

in response to everyones answers I ask a new question, how easy is it to tint your own windows?

Is it a proper pain in the !Removed!? or is it just a case of patience and a bit of practice. of course the internet doesn't offer a definitive answer lol. main question is would a newbie like myself be able to pull off a semi decent job with the basic stuff?

id say no, i wouldnt try it at all, better leave it to the pros, if it goes wrong wasted money, and the cheap tints you can buy are shocking!!! the pros cost more as they use top quality material. its can look horrible even with a semi decent job with tints it has to be perfect every time!

fair enough then, I'm not bothering to spend ungodly amounts on the fezza because hopefully I'll be getting a new car soon, funds permitting haha
