mk6 brake pads? mine are squeeking when i brake so i assume this is why

Not always.

My brakes squeeked brand new on my old car. Something to do with the rear brakes as when I pulled my handbrake up slightly when driving along the squeeking would go.

New brake pads I'm not sure the cost...I get mine trade price from my other halfs garage!

if its not brake pads then what else could it be?

a lot of fords brake squeek

Yeah we had squeaky brakes on our Merc, got on our nerves, ended up paying a local mobile bloke to come and grease them up, apparently they have a coating on them when new which can wear off and make the squeaking start, dont mean they are worn though.

i sippose the only way to tell is to take the wheel off and check?

Took wheel off and plenty of pad left like 1.5cm. maybe the pad just needs a layer of copper grease. anyone else had this problem?
