Check Fuses. Not sure which fusebox its in, probably the aux fuse box in the engine bay. Sometimes when bulbs go it takes the fuse out as well

if the fuses are ok most likely the reverse light switch on gearbox gone.

Ive checked the fusebox under my dash on sun, not checked under bonnet yet. If it is the switch, how much are they and are they easy to fit?

depends what year your car is, a quick internet search will help.

Just on net now, all i can find is pics that are from an older model, i got an 04 mk6 model fiesta

Just fitted the new switch. And still nothing =( Everything else on the left side of my lights (rear) are working so i cant see it being the wiring. It cant jus go like that can it?

how odd... Is the earth connected? It might have been knocked in the boot and come loose...

  • Author

Hmm, good point. Where about would it be in the boot? behind my lights? i was in the boot a few weeks ago but not doing anything. I did replace my tyre but surely that coulnt have done anything. Ill look on google to find the boot earth?

  • Author

Yup, just had a look in the boot, its still connected no rust/wear etc looks fine. Im getting my hands on a multi-metre in a bit not sure how to use it though haha :>

I'm not sure if reverse lights are part of the MOT, i dont think they are, so you should be ok going forward. Maybe get an advisory at mot but shouldnt fail. not 100% on this though...

Reverse lights aren't required for an mot. You don't even need the rear wiper/washers to work either

  • Author

Yeah im 50-50 too about MOT. not due till jan 2010 soo. But little strange that the light aint working, would think something as petty as this is easy :<

Rite, Just cut the Wires leading to the Reverse switch. Fused them together and turned power on. Suppirse supprise it works......

But its a new reverse light switch... But, when i took the old one off (and i had the new on off today) there was some sort of lubricant/oil on the preassure switch part? this suposed to be there, or is the Switch supposed to be Bone dry?

Thanks

Glad you have finally found the cause of the problem :) Not got a clue about reverse switches though so can't help you on that one, sorry (never even seen one lol  )

Goodluck!

Yupieee, i fixed it. I dont have a clue what was wrong, But even the reverse switch which i got orderd specific for my make/model was wrong so had to do some power re-wireing (if u you me). PLugged the switch in, nothing. "kicks wheels", so had 1 more go. put it in reverse then put the switch in and it worked? what the... lol. But yay!
