Negative Battery Terminal

Featured Replies

The other night I disconnected my battery, then reconnected it a short time later. It turned out I removed the positive cable by accident because it sparked a little when I put it back on.

The negative cable appears to be hidden on the other side of the battery underneath the plastic cowl thingy, so how the hell do you remove it without removing the battery?

They are a right pain in the !Removed! in the focus.

It takes longer but I found it easier to remove the plastic above it.

Take wipers off pull rubber seal off and I think there is 8 clips to prise off then the top part comes away.

If my memory serves me right it's a few torx screws to remove the lower part.

Shouldn't take you more than 20 mins tops.

There might be someone on here with an easier/quicker way though.

Just so you know, you will get this even when reattaching the negative terminal if something in the car is drawing power (like the interior lights, for instance, if you've left one of the doors open).

That aside, I often think that with the way these cars are 'designed', Ford must employ Homer Simpson. Some of the issues you encounter when working on them are just laughable and it boggles the mind that somebody in that position could ever design a car in such a stupid manner.

If let's say I just want to disconnect one side of the battery, e.g. when removing the seats for sound deadening purposes would it be a good idea to just remove positive? I know the general rule of thumb is always disconnect negative first, but that's when removing the battery as a whole, which is not what I'm wanting to do.
