Morning all,

Anyone got a paint they would recommend for painting both my drums and callipers?

I have looked at hammerite smooth red but apparently the paint lifts when the breaks get to a certain temperature.

Not really mate just go to Halfords there paints are allways good

Me & a lot of mates use "Hammerite" Metal paint for things like that buddy!

Have you had problems with softenning paint under break heat? Ive got some hammerite in the garage but doesnt say anything about heat protection

You really need to use specific high temp paint otherwise it will start to bubble and crack eventually. Halfords or other car parts places have specific paints for this purpose. There is one which is designed to stay directly on to engines too which is similar. I used it on my old engine block on a micra and it made it look like new. Rear drums Don't get quite as hot so hammerite might be OK but I personally wouldn't trust it. Caliper paint for me all the way. I've got blue on my front calipers and am waiting for a nice enough day to do the rear drums black.

I've used hammerite too and not had any problems with it.

I used foliatec break caliper paint for mine mate, great stuff comes with a cleaner spray as well! It's around £25 so a little bit more expensive but worth it in my opinion and I just used hammerite smooth black on the drums

Cheers for all the great comments! Going to the aftermarket store in about an hour to see what they have got. Might be able to get the paint on tonight if the weather is ok or stick it in the garage.

Why is it as soon as i think about painting them i am looking at blue dust caps!i swear my car is a revenue sponge!

Well getting there 3 of 4 done.. had to stop because it got dark :(

Quick question though...........my rear drums are rusty. Do i need to clean them first or can i just apply the paint over the rust colored drums?

All i did was got a wire brush and sat with it for a good 10mins giving it a clean. If you paint the rust once that flicks off your gonna loose the bit you painted.

If you have some compressed air as well give it a blast of thay every so often when cleaning so remove any dust youve got off.

Let us know how it goes and if you have any questions, fire them over.

I've used Hammerite on all cars, never had any problems.....you'll only need high temp paint on a high performance car with brakes that get very hot. Also done engine blocks in Hammerite and rocker/cam covers in normal 2 pack paint. No problems what so ever.

High temperature paint is for high performance cars that get very hot. Only time I've used it, is on exhaust manifolds. And in my opinion bbq paint is better, and cheaper.

Looking good mate, think the drums would look better black though (but thats just my opinion). :D

:o the cheak ahaha.. i just fancied something a bit different and there is a blue/grey theme throughout the car so though why not

lol.....I like the blue on the calipers, just always done drums black or silver (if the calipers are silver). :)
