Led Drl's (Eagle Eyes)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have been having thoughts recently on having LED DRL's on my mondeo, I am thinking front and rear, and I am also thinking an option of instead of using the conventional "LED Strips", I am thinking of using "Eagle Eye LED" something like 12w whites (4 front) and 12w red rears (perhaps 3w if its sufficiently bright?) that I am contemplating putting either in the light cluster or elsewhere.

I am not even sold on the idea at the moment, but just wondered what anyone else thought!

I have used some of the larger eagle eyes in my tailgate to light up the floor just behind the car when the boots open. They do a decent job.

I did get some red and some amber ones for use as additional tail, brake and indicators but haven't fitted them yet.

Your find the wattage claimed won't necessarily mean they will be brighter. I have bought 1w, 3w and 9w eagle eyes, but when I tried them out in the garage, the 9w didn't light up the garage wall any more than the 1w did.

Cheers Steve,

to be honest even pairs of these come in at £2.50 so I might look to give it a try later on!

Cheers Steve - to be honest though, I am still thinking about where I would mount them. my idea is to mount them under the parking sensors on the front (in the grill) so I dont have to drill out the bodywork. then I am thinking I will wire the rears up permenantly and maybe try hide them either in the light cluster or along the bottom grill (but I think that would look a bit cack)

So heres a couple of mock ups, I personally like the lights in the grill but suspect they would fall foul of the lighting regulations when they are eventually enforced. So I could just move them if necessary, but the alternative would be in the grill as so:

As for the rear, I dont particularly fancy the bottom LED skirt Idea, so I think I would need a high output LED and hide it in the light cluster:

The lower grill at the front look good. I think the skirt is a good place as its there but a little more subtle. Ifts a shame they don't do eagle eyes with Sea Grey surrounds, that way you could get away with a bit of drilling and they wouldn't really show.

you could always go for led strips across the back instead. and some behind the front grill :whistling:
