bryndisi
Hi, I'm new on here. I have a problem with my tdci focus. I seem to be getting air in the fuel sysyem. I have pulled diesel right through the sysyem with an electric pump via the return line and at the fuel filter. The car then starts up and running for about 5 min before I see the return hose start to bubble and finally empty and the engine cuts out due to lack of fuel pressure in the rail. Now I swear I can hear the device in the attached picture hissing and I can see in the clear pipe attached to it the bubbles in the fuel and the flow also seems to be going in the opposite direction to the arrow on the side of it. Does anyone know what it is, I'm assuming some kind of non-return valve? And where can I get a replacement? Thank you any help would be appreciated. jeebowhite
Im no expert on this but it does look like a non return, however if the arrow is the wrong way, it sounds like it could be installed the wrong way, or the wrong part for the car. If its hissing, try wrapping it in amalgemating tape, then run it again, if there is a leak then this should prevent the draw of air into the line. bryndisi
Update, the hissing sound from this device was the air in the fuel system passing through it. What ever this is works fine, the problem was the little 'quick release' pipe from the fuel tank sender to the solid under car fuel lines. It's a little 10" pipe with quick release leaky fittings at either end. A £3 piece of fuel line has solved my running issues :) Sent from my D6503 using Ford OC mobile app

bryndisi
I used pieces of clear fuel line and at each point that I could quick release the fuel line, I used the clear pipe to determine where the air leak was. Took hours replacing each link with a clear tube and bleeding the fuel system for the car to run 5 minutes before cutting out. But eventually I found the faulty tube between the tank sender and solid under chassis lines. The fix was a lot cheaper than Ford's too.
