L666JER
So I decided to adjust the valve clearances to get the engine to quieten down (common problem with this engine). Got the rocker cover off, put the feeler gauge in but non the adjusting bolts will budge. Also it does not feels as though it even wants to turn, sort of feels as though it shouldn't, even though it should. Haynes say they are stiff lock bolts or something to stop them loosening but can still be adjusted with a spanner. Anyone know why this could be? Don't fancy doing any WD40 in case it gets in the engine.
jeebowhite
I would say you definately need to loosen it, but I dont think WD40 would stuff the inside of the engine. The alternative is to use Coke? that should help dissolve any rust, then perhaps soak a sponge in coke and leave it on top to try and clear up the bolt? Ah okay, I'll see if wd40 makes a difference, have to wait until the weekend now as I need the car.
L666JER
Well had another go just now, going to try with WD40 but the bolts just turned fine without it. Very wierd. Anyway, now they are set correctly, it's miles quieter. Taken it down the road and from what I can tell it's much more responsive, particularly in second :)
