1700 X Flow Timing

Featured Replies

I want to re-time my 1700 X Flow from an Escort Mk1/Mk2. Can someone indicate the basic timing advance setting. It runs but is suffering as the revs rise.

Dave

Should be 10 degrees BTDC. That should be with the advance and !Removed! disconnected and plugged. However it wont like Lead Free petrol unless its had hardened valves fitted.

What ignition system are you running? If original and the timing is ok, the problem you are having could be advance and !Removed! related. The bob weights get stuck in the distributor and stop moving with the vacuum.

Hi Bruce

Thanks for your help. I'm running with a Lumenition, electronic sensor ignition with no vacuum advance. I also have hardened valves so no worries on unleaded.

Thanks again

Dave
