Notchy Gears

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, ive just bought an 06 1.6 tdci zetec cmax. All the gears are a bit notchy hot or cold, particularly 1st. I took the cover off bottom of gearstick and noticed that there is like this pinky coloured soapy waxy type lubrication on the ball at the base of the gearstick also on linkage rod connections. Does anyone know if you can put any old grease on or wether you have to use something special. In due course i will be taking cover off beneath engine and inspecting linkages at gearbox end. Has anybody had the same problems as me ?

To be honest any silicone based grease should do the job. I would say try to remove as much of the grease on there as you can first, and then apply new and fresh.
