Would anybody know why the temperature gauge on a 1997 ford escort isn't working? It's going up when the ignition is on but drops to zero when the car is started and doesn't ever budge off zero then, even after a long drive and heated up??.....iv tried changing the senders and switches but still no luck

    sounds like a bad thermostat, the temperature I think is based on water coolant, this passes through the thermostat which trips if the coolant is too hot, this should start the fan until the coolant reduces temperature. but it also acts for telling the instrument cluster how hot the car is.
