Lumpy Acceleration

My Focus mk 2 zetec 1.6 auto has started running 'lumpy' its not misfiring or playing up its just not silky smooth. It coincides with driving in Sundays monsoon. Though I do notice a clicking noise from engine like a valve opening or closing . If its just soaked wiII it eventually dry out by itself ie do nothing. or do I have to start throwing money at it.? Thanks

    Sounds to me like a sticky EGR valve. I would suggest blanking it off (costs around a fiver) and strongly suspect it will resolve if not certainly improve the situation.
