S-Max Stereo Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi have just joined after purchasing a 09 S-max tdci zetec. Think it has the Sony second generation stereo (single cd + mp3). Can I upgrade to a 6cd version or need a changer? Still want the steering wheel control to work.... Any advice would be appreciated. Would probably need to get someone to fit as not that savvy.

2009 model would have the oval head unit I expect.

The 6CD version should just swap over, no need for an extra autochanger but I'm wondering if you'd need a different roof antenna base to get the DAB working?

Just removed the 6 CD MP3 head unit from my ST this very afternoon but won't be selling it.

Google says it's the oval version :)

Somehow my search of 2009 SMax also brought up this :o

Ye gods! That's horrible.

Hi all is is the second pic (oval). So I can just simply swap it over with a 6cd? If that's the case any idea of somewhere reasonable to get one.

Is it like the esrlier picture (oval with a square border) or the true oval one like this-

Hi Stoney it is the true oval like your last pic

I have a single disc mp3 one in my car but I also installed a Ford mp3 usb input and tbh I rarely listen to either the radio or discs now.

A single disc mp3 version can hold more music than a 6 disc non mp3 unit anyway (depending on bitrate).

If you really want a 6 disc unit then best bet is ebay.

From Ford you'd be looking £1200.

If you were considering a DAB unit then I have a fitting guide (under this post when viewed on a PC) which has parts and costs listed.

The guide is for a Focus but afaik the parts are the same and fitting is not likely to be too different.

Swapping your radio is easily done.

Just remove the radio fascia, undo 4 screws, disconnect the aerial and radio connections and reverse the process.

I'd say 20 minutes tops.

I see you're in Cornwall? I'm in Plymouth so if you're not too far from there I'd happily assist with fitting if needed when the time comes.
