Screech When Starting And Stopping Engine

Featured Replies

On my ford focus 1.8tdci I have got a immediate single screech every time I stop and start my car. I bought the car about five years ago and it has always happened . I have changed the cambelt and auxiliary belt but it's still there. Just wondered if anyone can shed light on this. I have no aircon on this car so it's not that.

Thanks for any comments in advance.

Where is this screech coming from? Are you sure its the engine bay and not one of the sides?

Sounds like it's coming from the pulley wheel area. The sound only happens when start and stop engine.

Can you remove the auxiliary belt and see if the noise persists?

Will try that steff. It could be the pulley I reckon

I used to get an annoying squeal on my mk1 focus from the crank pulley. I took some emery cloth or similar round it to take the shine off it. It worked in my situation so it might be worth a look?
