Indicator Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, I've had my 04 street ka for just over a yr and it's been fine, then the indicators started playing up. Turn them on they go then stop then restart. It started with the left indicator, then the problem started on the right as well, then got to stage where sometimes it work and sometimes not then the hazards started playing up. Until it packed in completely.

A month ago, I got a second hand indicator stalk, as its one unit and the fact I had no working indicators. This worked fine for 3 wks and now the same thing is happening they both start working but might cut off when they should not or go three flashes then stop.

Is this a common fault? The second hand indicator stalk was also off an 04. Was I unlucky to jst buy a faulty one or would this happen again. Am I better off getting a new one?

Or is this not a fault in the indicator stalk but somewhere else. Please can anyone help. I love my car but this being the second one that's having this problem I'm wondering what it could be. Do I need to replace for new or a different part.

Tracey

It's not just the Streetka but the Ka itself and is fairly common.

The normal causes are either the relay or you have a bad bulb/bulb connection.

Trial and error I'm afraid.

Hi rick,

Thanks I will speak to my garage. Like I said, I replace the indicator stalk and as its happening again, I'm think either bad luck greeting a faulty stalk with same problem or something else. So I try the relay, in manual says under control panel but I found fuses and that's it. Also relay I think does separate relays for each indicator or is that wrong. I'm a woman cars have four wheels and I know the basic tyre oil water etc stuff.

But defo look into relay

Tracey :-) big thank you

No problem but don't forget faulty bulbs can give strange results too. If I remember rightly are there 2 fuse boxes in the Ka ?

The relay should be located on the multifunction switch. This relay controls both turn and hazzard flashing.

Might be worth changing the turn indicator bulbs just in case they are the cause of the relay failing.

Hi rick,

Lol I'm not sure I've seen the fuse box but I'm guessing the relays r behind. But all this help is great as I really don't want to put another complete indicator stalk if it's not that and also it prob work for a few weeks like the one I just put in and stop working as well.

Hi dan,

I'm a woman and I know basic bits. So sorry this is prob stupid question. Where is the multifunction switch that this relay is behind, on a street ka. All help is great and thanks for bearing with me.

Tracey

Tracey, its the indicator stalk you changed last time.

Its called a multifunction switch because the assembly comprises of two stalks, the hazzard switch and the relay.

See here, the relay is the piece with the white code stamped on it.
