Power Steering Fluid Leak

Featured Replies

Hi I have a focus cmax 1.6 petrol 56 plate. Just this morning as I started up the car I heard a loud screeching noise, so with the engine still running I lifted the bonnet and seen there was some power steering fluid leaking (i don't know where from) so I turned the steering wheel slightly and the noise got louder. I switched off the ignition to phone a friend only to notice power steering fluid dripping onto the ground now there is no fluid left in the resivour! Could this be just a leak from 1 of the pipes or is it something more serious? Any help welcome

Oh dear, not another failure!

This I'm afraid is quite common of the 1.6 petrol focus of that year.

I think the fix for it is a minimum of a new hose/pipe.

My brother just replaced the full power steering system around 2 years ago that cost £300 :( do you know how much this would roughly cost for parts stef123?

By full power steering system, does that include the rack too?

Anyway, I'm sure someone on here said just recently the pipe alone was £40?

It's a horrible job to do after it's burst.. Red power steering fluid everywhere!

I had the exact same problem on my 08 1.6 focus. Ended up costing me £130 to get one of the high pressure hoses replaced. Only needed on hose replaced but apparently ford only sell the whole setup, not individual hoses which bumped up the price.
