Engine Conversion

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 1.4 ford focus 2006 LX, I need your help I'm from birmingham, I want to get a engine conversion to something a lot faster (140bhp+) i wouldn't have a clue how to do anything myself so how much and who or company could do this for me? Thankyou

It would be cheaper and easier to buy a car with that sort of output...engine swaps like-for-like aren't too bad, but make it bigger and your insurance will shoot higher than a really high thing on stilts! Not to mention the cost of doing it

That's the thing I couldn't get insured on anything higher so wouldn't declare the work done. I just want something with a lot more poke and with not going to be able to get insurance this only seems the only way

So basically your mod your car, not inform the insurance company. Which will make your insurance invalid anyway.....so might as well buy a bigger car and not insure it.....it's the same thing lol

Just wait a few years and build up your no claims, we all started in small engined cars. Having a fast car isn't everything.....been there, done that.

You can still have fun in a small engined car.....good brakes, and good handling count for a lot. :)

Your probally looking a few grand for engine conversion thats just for fittment. As its like 5-8 hours to remove the engine an wiring looms etc. Then it will be a few grand for the engine etc.

My mk6 fiesta zs handles like a dream an got some hefty brakes to boot an its only 98bhp. On the straights im cars behind. But on a good twisty road im all over them

Upgrade the handling and that will equate to being a faster car.

As already said, to go for 140+bhp will be expensive. You are basically talking about chucking a ST170 engine in which will need all the suspension and brakes, fuel pump etc. Best bet is to buy a ST170 as a donor vehicle. Saying that you may as well just buy a ST170.

Rough guess I bet it will cost you £2500 plus to do the conversion correctly. Can get a good ST170 for £1200

What type of things could I do to upgrade the handling? Thankyou

Lower stiffer springs -30mm at the most, camber bolts and a fast road set up. A good set of grippy tyres are a good start though.....they are what keep you on the road. :)

Thankyou, maybe a silly question but what is a fast road set up? Thanks again

It's when the camber, wheel alignment, toe in, toe out are set up for better traction, grip etc. Needs to be done professionally. :)

Sorry to say but that's potentially a jail sentence if god forbid you were to cause an accident.
