Dead Satnav/stereo In Focus Mk2

Featured Replies

I'm looking for advice to either fix or replace the stereo/satnav in my 58 plate Focus mk2 (see pic of the stereo - it has the 'oval' shape).

The whole stereo unit recently stopped working - nothing on the display (not even the clock), unresponsive to all buttons. Two days later I returned to the car to find the battery was completely flat, Ford replaced the battery and told me the stereo was 'broken' and would cost £1000 to replace with a new unit or £450 if I'd accept a reconditioned unit.

That's far more than I'm prepared to spend so I'm looking for options.

1) Is it likely the stereo fault can be fixed? I know I'm clutching at straws here.

2) Failing that, any suggestions for a replacement? I don't want to spend more than £250, so accept that satnav might be out, but would be nice to retain the steering wheel controls and auxiliary in.

Thanks!

There was a free replacement action for satnavs of about that time. Have your dealer check TSI 26/2013, if that is still active and applies (btw., result of a google search on travelpilot fx tsi, but I recalled there was something to search for).

Thanks for such a quick response Thomas, I'll check the dealer tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

Alternatively if the dealer thing doesn't work there is this sort of thing available:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/D5161E-Eonon-Sat-Nav-DVD-Player-for-Ford-Mondeo-Fiesta-Focus-88-Radio-Stereo-/400453496188?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item5d3ce36d7c

I've literally pulled the first one I found on ebay, I've done no research into that seller/that stereo, it is just to give you an idea about things available. I've never heard of anyone complain about them, although I don't quite know anyone that has one (off the top of my head). I've heard that sort of thing is plug and play and works with the steering controls - again I cannot vouch if that specific one is plug and play.

Best of luck...

Just scrolling down I've picked another one - different colour..

As with the above, I cannot vouch for this either..

Thanks Thomas, the dealer tells me that this recall doesn't apply to our car though. Worth a try though!

Thanks Ian, I'll search the forum to see if anyone has installed one of these on a model like ours, might be our best bet.

Not to push you further afield but it may be worth search the Interwebs, just in case others have installed them but not on here...

If it is completely dead I would be checking the fuses and connections as it is very unusual for one to completely die.
