Door Won't Open

Featured Replies

I have been to look at a 55 plate streetka today and I like it but..

The drivers door won't open from outside or inside.

It's unlocking on the remote ie the inner handle moves out to the unlock position.

I am aware that a common issue is the outer handle that breaks. But if this was the case wouldn't I still be able to open it from the inside?

Has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong? I'd like to buy this car but would like a bit of a heads up on it before I commit.

Thanks

The door card would have to be removed to get to the part that has broken. The rod that connects the door pull is under a lot of strain in these due to poor design and they break. When you pull the inner handle you can feel it binding because it rubs on a plastic box inside the door.

I have posted a fix before but no-one seems to be interested. All they do is keep replacing the handles!

Anyway, the seller should get this sorted before selling it.

If you do buy it and want to know more about what causes the problem and how to fix it properly just message me.

Hi sandy cat, i am hoping you can help me please. I have a 05 streetka (only had it a month) and from purchase the central locking has been very slow or not work at all. If i tried opening the door manually the alarm goes off.

Anyhow, i bought a new battery for fob, no change. i decided to spray wd40 into the latch on side of doors, i manually moved the latch thing up and down with my finger so as to spray it all, when i moved it down it 'clicked' and when i tried to close the door it wouldnt shut, so i had to move it back up with my finger and the door shut - only it wont now open at all either with the fob or manually. The key goes in the lock but only turns a quarter turn each way. I sat in the car and pressed central locking to lock and the handle pulls on both doors move inwards but door doesnt unlock drivers door (passenger side is ok tho) I know i shouldnt have moved the latch in the door i was just sick of it, i am having to leave my car unlocked all the time or if i manage to lock it, i come back and not know wether i can get back into it! I have had a look online and people just say take the door panel off but i cant as door is locked shut, i am also a girl with no car savvy at all so i know its gonna have to go to garage but i am frightened even they wont be able to get into it and i will be forever sliding from passenger side and back over to get out, i feel like a right plum!

I dunno if it makes any difference but my electric windows still work, the door handle pulls up from the outside but nothing happens, even tho i can hear the central locking on the drivers door trying to lock it (when it works at all!) thanks in advance, ;0

Hi, just an update incase anyone else finds this post and is in the same position as myself - I took my absolute frustration out on the car door and punched it (from the inside) in absolute temper and to my amazement the door opened!! I sprayed it again with wd40 and didnt manually touch anything on the latch and took a deep breath and shut the door - it opened again no problems. Im not that brave to actually try and lock the car manually or otherwise untill I have the cash in the bank to go get it fixed straight away so for now its open to anyone that fancies a ride but at least i dont feel like an idiot getting in and out the passenger side!! Great forum, if anyone can give me an idea on how much it might be to get my central locking replaced it would be appreciated, thanx ;)
