What Audio Cable To Use?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I've just purchased a 2011 New Shape Ford Focus 'Edge'. I've only had it a day but am having a bit of trouble with the stereo. I've connected my phone to the stereo via Bluetooth, that is all fine but I'd like to know how I go about connecting my phone via the USB connection or Aux connection. I have both the usb and aux connections inside my glovebox. Thing is, when I plug my standard 'iPhone lightening to usb cable' into the usb plug in the glovebox I don't get any sound coming through. The centre screen will display song, artist, album choices etc but I can't get any sound. Do I need to get a cable with a usb AND an Aux connector for it all to work or either one of the two?

I also have a dedicated Aux cable and I've tried this on it's own and it works fine with sound but then again I don't get all the album/song info on the screen.

Also a question about the Stereo when using Bluetooth - while using Bluetooth is it possible to change albums etc using the dashboard keys? I can only seem to access my playlists so far.

Really sorry if I've confused anyone with this post, I'm not too good at explaining things lol.

Hope you can help.

Many thanks.

Unless you apply an audio software update I believe you will need a Y cable and (for your phone) a lightning adaptor -

The software update is available afaik and will allow playback via USB only but the Ford link is dead, some other members may have the data or an up to date link.

Thanks very much for the help Stoney, appreciate it.

I've ordered a Y-cable and a 30 pin to Lightening adaptor so hoping that will work.

Interesting about the Sync update - I've tried several times to register my car VIN on the site but it won't work. I've double and triple checked that the number is correct but it's not having it. Maybe a garage could sort it out for me but I'm guessing this would be expensive.

Again cheers for your help.

Hi Folks, here is an update on my audio problem. As recommended, I purchased the y-cable and 30 pin to Lightening adaptor. Plugged this all into the USB and Aux sockets but I am still not getting any sound at all. Really frustrating! Why am I not getting any sound?

In my previous car it was just a matter of plugging my lightening to usb cable into the usb socket on my stereo and that was it.

With the Focus its a different matter. I can see track info, album choice etc but just zero sound.

I really want to do the Ford Sync update but this is not happening either - I have been trying (without success) to register with the Sync website but it will not accept my 17 digit car VIN number. Not sure what to do.

Ok folks, just wanna give you a quick update.

I had an Audio Update applied to my Focus yesterday at my local Ford garage. Didn't cost me a penny due to my car still being under warranty so this was great news. Pleased to say that now, after the update, my music is playing solely with the standard USB to Lightening cable..no more Aux cable, no more y-cables and no more adapters. At last I can just plug my phone in and enjoy some tunes.

Very happy about this, however .. I've still got the problem of the Bluetooth not working as it should. I've tried making calls from the car, it dials out for a few rings then stops and the system returns to Radio. So frustrating! I don't know if this is an iPhone software problem or if it is the cars Bluetooth itself. Has anyone else had the same problem?? I have an iPhone 5S and running software version 8.0.2 at present. Receiving calls also doesn't work as it should.

So, very happy about the update but still gotta get this Bluetooth problem sorted!

Cheers for reading, have a good day all.

Ewan.
