2005 Focus Key Fob Issues

Featured Replies

To start I have the 3 button fob and a spare key on its own no fob, today my 3 button fob was damaged and what I have left is the part with the 3 buttons and the key itself, the battery part was destroyed and also the like chip thing with red wire wrapped around it, so could anyone guide me to how I would get myself set up with a new keyfob. I want to avoid dealers as they charge to much. So cheapest methods would be appreciated. Many thanks

The chip you describe is the immobiliser transponder.

Without that the car won't start with any part of that key now.

I recommend you buy a new fob, swap the uncut blade over for your cut one and call a couple of local Auto Locksmiths for a qote to recode the key to your car.

Apologies for hijacking your post, but I have a similar issue..... Same set up, key with 3 button fob and spare key, no fob (part no 2S6T15K601AB).

The fob won't work, changed battery and still no use, car will start with either key, but alarms if you don't put the key in the ignition soon after opening the doors.

Since I have a working key, can I buy a replacement fob and re programme it?

Thanks

You can self programme the central locking circuit yourself easily (key in ignition and turn from II to 0 four times and then press the lock button).

If replacing the fob you will need to swap the glass transponder from the original key or the car won't start.

Programming the transponder is the bit that costs the most to do as it requires the use of an IDS system (laptop or handheld pad direct to the obd diagnostic port).

I agree with stoney. You will need a virgin chip/transponder to be programmed to the car.
