Surging On Start Up

Featured Replies

I recently been having problems starting my 2.0tdci. When I turn the key it turns over and then shakes and stalls, turn the key again it starts fine.

If it does start on the first turn it surges revs struggling to get up to speed after about 2-3 seconds it's fine.

No problem when driving along. Doesn't miss a heart beat just on the start up, I've had the glow plugs changed beginning this year, the glow plug light comes on them of as it should.

If I was to turn the key a few times before I turn it over again it starts first time no surging.

( is it the glow plugs or the replay or I have been told it could be the coolant tempeture sensor )!which I have brought and hop jot fit at the weekend.

I also changed the air control sensor as it was worn badly and thinking it was that but no. Fault still happens, I also have no stored codes.

Anyone !! Lol.

When was the fuel filter last replaced?

  • Author

Last year when I carried out a service.

Could it be supermarket fuel ?

Quite likely try a tank of decent fuel such as shell fuel or super fuel but if the filter is clogged it may not help. Do you run the tank to dregs?

dont ever run tank dry give no untold problems on passat

I always run mine low (about 5 litres) and thankfully don't have issues but it cancan block the filter causing the issues you see

I have to the point it says no mileage left on the computer but it's never happened before. Would it not cause problems on the run?

I know changing the filter is a pain on the !Removed!.
