FF90
Hello, I'm new here and just have a few questions about the audio part of the car. Just bought an 05 plate 1.4 LX Ford Focus (MK2) for my first car, and it comes with the CD6000 head unit (CDDJ not AUX), since AUX is all I need, I'd rather go with the more stock look instead of an aftermarket stereo, but the original head unit is very dull and it has no AUX option. First question, are there any AUX alternatives other than an FM transmitter for a quick temporary fix until I swap the head units over? I've looked on eBay but can't seem to find any, some other cars have an option to trick the head unit in to thinking the source is the CD changer, but it has actually been changed to AUX, I need something like that. Secondly, I want to buy the newer Sony head units which you see in MK 2.5 08 onwards Focus', the glossy black ones, will it be as simple as buying one on eBay and sticking it in? Which additional wires will I have to buy? Has anyone done this, as I'm wondering if everything went fine and if the sound was still working (all Speakers still working). Any help is appreciated. :) Oh, and how do I go about sticking in a slim subwoofer for a little extra umph? Will they fit in the back of the Sony HU? Or is that simply not possible unless I buy an after market stereo? (As you can tell, I'm not an expert on car audio haha but I do have general automotive knowledge from over the years) Any help is appreciated as mentioned before. Thank you! :)
troy45
I'm sure people have done the upgrade from the square head unit but it's not just a straight swap. The square head unit clips into a carrier in the dash - you need radio keys to remove it. With the oval head units in the later Mk2 and 2.5 this bolts into the dash, you have to remove the fascia first to get it out. So at minimum you need to swap bits in the dash and get a matching oval fascia. Try searching on here, I'm sure it'll be covered in better detail. I was more hoping to fit in the rectangular Sony glossy HU, I have no interest in the oval unit you see in most silver fascias. I just hope the sound is okay once I exchange the units, that's my biggest gripe. The sony HU definitely has working AUX, right?
IINexusII
Yes you can fit the Sony MK2 unit in as ive done this myself, its a straight swap. to get AUX you will need to purchase the Aux cable and wire it out somehow, either drill a hole on one of the empty buttons where the rear window heating is, or wire it to come out through the glovebox. You need to make sure you get the unit for the Focus, as the Mondeo one is slightly angled. the Focus one is prefectly rectangular. the MK2.5 Sony Oval unit is also possible, but obviously you will need to also purchase the oval fascia, along with the two mounting brackets (you should ask for this when purchasing), as the radio is mounted in using the brackets rather than the radio removal keys

Lenny
Wow, incredibly helpful post, I'll definitely come back to this after I sort out the HU, cheers! No problem mate, To be honest it was easy enough for me to piece together those links as im currently in the process of upgrading the sound system myself, Ive gone on to Caraudiodirect.co.uk as they have an excellent lay out of equipment, I created a shopping list, Then copy&paste each part number in to eBay.co.uk and found the cheapest top rated supplier of each item, Turns out i wont be buying from Caraudiodirect atall lol found it all cheaper elsewhere but its a good site to view spec on items. Oveall those links above are the cheapest supplier of those perticurlar items on date of linking, Check your local Halfords for price on the Vibe Slick 4AWG kit may be cheapest. Especially if you become a premium member of the forum you will get a 15% reusable discount card for Halfords :) Makes shopping that bit better, Pays to shop around for identical items without compromising quality you can save alot overall. gaztdci90
I have done this conversion mines a 2005 as well, and even better news for you I'm selling my Sony, it's in mint condition and I have a surround aswell you would need to paint it tho, it fits straight into the dash all though the later focus had 2 little brackets that you need, I got mine from scrappy, the aux lead I bought of eBay for a fiver, it goes into your plug and you feed it through where ever you like,

Lenny
Wow, incredibly helpful post, I'll definitely come back to this after I sort out the HU, cheers! One thing about choosing a sub mate, If you choose to purchase a different sub other than the jl audio 10" i linked you to above, Check the spec on the sub to ensure it fits the enclosure, Last thing you want is to purchase sub that is too long, You may also like this stinger 1 farad capacitor, not essential in any sense unless going over 500watts but looks very Paul Walker :) http://www.woofersetc.com/p-3782-scsk1-stinger-nitrous-1-farad-capacitor-digital-volt-meter-w-distribution-block.aspx
Stoney871
Just in case you're interested in ever fitting the oval radio, this is a link to the guide I posted after doing the upgrade myself. Looks far better than the standard Mk2 6000CD radio. http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/tutorials/article/56-guide-to-swapping-a-focus-mk2-radio-for-a-mk25-radio/
