Oil Light Issues.

Featured Replies

Not sure if ive put this post in the right place? But, can anyone tell me what the problem could be on my focus, some times when i brake heavily the oil light will come on for a second or two before going back out, is this a case of sudden pressure under force or lack of if the light is coming on or something else? Or is this a common fault which will make me breath a little easier. Any and all help appreciated.

Have you checked the oil level? could be it's sloshing about when you're braking and if it's low this may cause the sensor to either read low level or see low pressure.

That'd be the first thing I'd check.

If the level is ok it could just be the oil pressure sensor needs replacing. If its not that then it could be the pump if your engine doesn't sound like a bag of nails.

I thought it could be because the level aswell but that seems fine, where abouts is the pressure sensor? And do they have tell tail signs of wear and tear normally, or would it just need replacing and hopeing that works?

The oil pressure switch should be at the front of the engine, exact location varies depending on which engine you have.

Standard wire colour was Black/Orange wire but may have changed.

Engine diagrams I have are not great but can attach diagram if you cannot locate it.

There are no visible signs for failure, just replace it and hope that's the problem.

Ok cool, i have the 1.8 duratech. I'll have a look. Thanks all for the info.

Are you sure its not the handbrake light flashing on? (Exclamation mark in a circle inside brackets) as this could be low brake fluid.

Check brake fluid level, if its low check brake pads first as it could be a sign they need replacing.

Its the oil light for sure. The fluid n pads ive changed recently, same time as oil. Ive just ordered a pressure gauge to wire in to monitor this problem, as now when i go round corners to fast it comes on briefly aswell. I dont want a bust engine but the oil level is fine. Just gonna replace the sensor at the same time n hope for the best!
