Focus Mk4 Steering Pump

Featured Replies

hi guys

having a problem with a steering pump I think as few days back was heavy rains and one day I got a problem with the steering pump and warning light saying assisted steering faulty

Started looking into it and I found the connectors are wet a bit at the pump

dried them out and next day all was good But there was a noise from steering pump and after few hours driving the steering went stiff again

checked the plugs again all dry and nice but the problem is there and no warning messages on dashboard this time

can it be a pump or something else

has anyone had this before

thanks in advance

Is the pump reservoir topped up with power steering fluid?

which engine do you have. diesels have electric power steering whereas petrol have the hydraulic system

Isn't it electro-hydraulic on all Mk2 Focus' James?

Ive got 1.8 petrol engine and its electric hydraulic one on it

i might be wrong but i think its the same on diesels and petrols as the part numbers the same on them

Hi, I had the same problem with a saxo vtr some years ago, that car had an electric power steering pump, when the steering went stiff we used to give it a bang with a long bar to get it working again, in the end we just replaced the pump.

Plugged to my mates autel maxeda or something like that today showed few codes the mains i guess were

steering pump malfunction

and steering angle sensor faulty

it looks like its the faulty angle sensor that makes the pump to malfunction

what do you guys reckon?

Thanks in advance

Does anyone knows where and how many steering angle sensors on 57 plate focus?

Thanks

The steering angle sensor is fitted behind the steering wheel.

It's usually only used for the ESP though, I didn't know it was used for the EHPAS as well?

I thought its one angle sensor as well but when connected to diagnostic it showed two

on first it says steering angle sensor circuit open

on second one steering angle sensor faulty with the c1956 code

I found out that there are two one behind the wheel itself the second one on steering rack

Oh ok, in that case you know more on the subject than I do lol! So I cant help I'm afraid.
