No Air On First Two Positions On Knob, Positions 3 And 4 Work!

Featured Replies

Strange one here - I have a Ford Focus 2007 MKII model, and a few months ago my car stopped giving me air (regardless of temperature, A/C on/off) in positions 1 and 2 on the knob, but as soon as I get to position 3, it kicks in at a normal speed for position 3, and position 4 also works at a normal speed.

When I move from position "off" to position 1 on the dial, the A/C indicator LED lights up so the knob clearly isn't broken (or at least, not completely). I've lived with this for a few months by turning the air straight to 3 for a while and turning it off again, but it's getting tedious. Before I go to Ford and get told "that'll be £500 please", does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Please tell me it's just a fuse?!!!

If it was just number 4 it was working on, I'd put money on it being the heater resistor.

On 3 is it a good airflow you're getting? Or is it a bit wheezy?

It seems perfectly fine on number 3 - no different than I remember it on that position before this happened. The fan doesn't seem to kick in at all at positions 1 and 2, but yeah, normal on 3 as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the tips guys - I Googled heater resistors and it looks like you're right - loads of people run into this problem it seems with the same symptoms. I've ordered a replacement heater resistor - fingers crossed that's it!
