Using A 1.6 115 Ps On 100Ps

Featured Replies

Is it possible to install a PCM update for a 115PS engine on a 100PS engine?

Or are the engines themselves different.

I know the actual latest PCM update for my car is

AM51AB AM51-12A650-AB

Its currently running on

AM51AA AM51-12A650-AA.

I'm wanting to remap it as it feels so slow. Vauxhalls seem to be quicker.

Theyre different engines.

That's no good then. It needs more power.

So what I'm gonna do now then is update pcm to latest. Then get a remap.

Hopefully it will best these vauxhalls.

not much you can do with remapping a naturally aspirated engine. you get more out of remapping a turbo petrol or diesel car..

Its 98 bhp standard. At least 9 bhp with remap. Then at least 15 bhp with k&n filter and more with the custom exhurst it has.

Does 10 Bhp make any diffrences?

Note that many 1.6 Duratec engines already have more power from the factory.

Many already have between 105 and 110 HP in stock condition. My previous MK2 100 HP Duratec had already 109 HP on RON98 fuel.

If you get a remap I recommend to put the car on a dyno before and after the remap. Many remap companies promise a nice increase of power but most times these values are compared to the stock value of 100 HP while in fact they are achieved on a car that already had more power in stock condition. In most cases the increasement of horsepower shall be lower as promised by the remap company.

Is RON 98 the standard normal fuel? Superchips is offering a remap. But say if you don't like it you can get your money back . It has a custom exhaust and k&n air filter which I'm hoping a remap might push up. Also JW didn't you remap your car? Did you feel any difference? It's only 9 Bhp.

The regular fuel in Europe is RON 95. I Always use Premium RON 98 (or higher) fuel. My previous 1.6 Duratec (and also my current 1.0 ECOboost 125 HP) do run a bit smoother on RON 98 fuel.

On my Focus MK2 I remapped the car using Superchips software. The remap alone was not a big difference. In fact the other improvements I did were a bigger difference.

I performed the following modifications:

*Superchips remap. At a later time this remap is further adapted to the other improvements by a specialist.

*Custom made 50mm throttle body.

*heavily modified stock air filter housing with a K&N panel filter.

*Modified intake manifold.

*Custom made silicon air intake hose between air filter housing and throttle body.

*Adjustable camshaft pulleys to adjust the valve timing.

In my opinion the larger throttle body was the biggest improvement. This improved the throttle response and made the engine run a lot smoother and feel quicker. In my opinion this was a bigger difference than the remap. Personally I would invest in a larger throttle body/modified intake first and afterwards search for someone who has the knowledge to develop a custom remap which is adapted to all changes you made.

Is it possible I could pay yourself to make me one?

I do not convert throttle bodies anymore. It simply takes me a lot of time (that I don not have) which in the end makes the converted 50mm throttle bodies too expensive. Another problem is that the 50mm throttle plate I used for the conversion is not available anymore.

I researched a company called maxbore that do this be waiting for a quote.

a decent set of camshafts, air filter, remap but that all costs £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

Back in the late 80's early 90's it would have been gas flowed head with bigger valves, piper/kent/burton cams, vernier pullys,

twin 40 dcoe's,4 branch exhaust manifold, just for starters.

If you were to look up Dave Vizard a master of cylinder head tuning he has done numerous books on the subject.

if you were able to get a spare cylinder head you could port and polish it and with the camshafts of choice in todays ford tuning you would get some good results for sure ....

Remap don't make much. Air filter I've done research and seems they have no effect.. the throttle body has been seen to increase power.
