Which Focus To Buy?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm new here so I'm not sure if this is where I post this question. Apologies in advance.

So I am currently in the process of selling my Honda Civic Type R FN2, sad to see it go :(, as I'm after a more economical car. I've decided to go with the tdci focus as it looks good, it's reliable/affordable and gives decent MPG.

My question to you is, which Ford Focus to buy? Zetec, titanium etc?

I have a budget of approximately 5K and I'm after one with 80,000 miles or less.

Which to avoid?

And

Facelift or pre facelift?

Thanks!

5k should get you a mk2.5 Zetec, Titanium is higher spec but the Zetec is still a good choice. I have the petrol version, it is a !Removed! good car.

I've just changed my mark 2.5 09 Focus Zetec 1.6 petrol for a newer Mk 3. Only changed because it's a requirement for my car allowance to have a car under five years old. Don't get me wrong, new car is superb to drive but so was my older one.

Otherwise I would still be driving my 09. Great car.

Titanium is higher spec but costlier.

I have a mk2.5 focus 2.0 tdci zetec s. I picked it up for £4500 with 115000 fsh and runs like a dream. Comes with the blue tooth, sat nav, push start button etc. Returns 45 mpg and that's driving progressively along a roads. Cracking car and the zetec s handles really well too for stock

Obviously its down to budget.

For performance: ST225

For loads of extras: Titanium.

For sporty ST looks & economy : ZETEC-S

for decent spec/sporty economy: zetec.

For cheap motoring bog standard:Lx/style.

I currently have Titanium.which was upgraded from a very high spec & nippy mk1.5 focus 2.0 zetec esp.( i miss it badly)

The car is heavilly modded from a titanium spec apart from front chrome ring grille.

Back in may I sold my proper type r (ep3) lol, and bought a 10 plate 1.6 tdci zetec,£30 road tax cheap insurance, like you fuel economy was what I was after, luckily it had nice alloys and tinted rear windows and sat nav fitted, totally different from the Honda to drive but extremely nice indeed and over the moon with it.

I wouldn't listen to any scare mongering in regards to ANY engine size we all have our favourites ,just an idea :D

the garage where I bought mine has a 58 plate sea grey 1.8 tdci 51000 . £5799

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm having trouble finding a decent zetec or titanium for under 5k. A lot of Style's though. Can you tell me the difference between zetec and style? Also pre facelift or facelift? Which would you recommend or is there not much difference apart from the dash, which I like on the facelift as it shows mpg etc not crammed into a tiny box like the pre facelift version, and the front of the car.

Thanks.

Hi there

Try and get the facelift model, much better than the pre facelift as they did quite a lot of external and internal changes, but the engines are still the same

as for spec, avoid the style, not worth the money, either get a Zetec or a titanium, I recommend test driving both types, I did and bought the Zetec because of the sports suspension , It felt a better drive for my (and my style of driving) but the Titanium "sports pack" ones do have sports suspension added on, they are the best of both worlds

Agreed with above, facelift is the better car. The issues with the pre facelift were mostly addressed, the interior more refined, more superior of the two. Zetec minimum, they are about in your budget, I got a 1.8 Zetec for 4k

Thanks for the replies, goodkat did you get a petrol or diesel? I can't find many cheap diesels but quite a few petrol and it's the diesel I'm after.

Mine is the petrol. Have you checked the auction houses? Lot of Focii going through those at the moment, could be worth a look.

Diesels do hold a higher premium, just bide your time the right one will pop up when you least expect it, if you can find a facelift model go for it , :D :D :driving: :driving:

Looked on Evans Halshaw site? My previous two petrol Focus Zetecs were from there and never had a problem with either. Great cars to drive. Only reason I didn't get another one from there was they did't have an S of the right age range.

I looked and there are 40 between £4000-£5000. Diesels and petrol
