Focus 99 1.8 Engine Revving When Idle

Featured Replies

hi im new to all this i have had my focus roughly 8 weeks and over the last few days it has started to run like a bag if spanners at first i thought it might be the plugs and leads so i replaced them yesterday but to no effect. now as eoi was coming home from work last night when i depressed the clutch the engine revs went up to 1500/2000 rpm as i dont know much about cars any help would be grateful on this i have looked at a few forums online with people saying they removed the battery terminals for 30 mins and that cleared the problem so i tryed that still no effect. other people have said it could be the idle air control valve but i have no idea were to locate this and if it is a hard job to remove and clean plz plz plz can someone help

Could be an ISCV issue, they are located on the back of the engine attached to the inlet manifold & has a 2 pin wiring plug going to it. Easier to access from underneath the car.

A clean out with brake/carb cleaner may do the trick but you might have to replace it.

Yes, I had the same issue and my wire was broken, fixed the wire placed it back on and worked, so AdeMk1 is right.
