Creaking/ Clunking When Going Over Speed Bumps

Featured Replies

Hey there

Recently had my 2005 Focus MOT'd and it got a "strong advisory" for the suspension. It failed on a few other bits too, but I had the work done to get it to pass.

Drove it for a few days, and it started making a creaking/ clunking when going over speed bumps, so took it to a garage and had them take a look at it. They replaced the front and rear suspension.

However, since getting it back (nearly a week ago) the noise is still just as bad.

I'm taking it back to the garage tomorrow, but does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Pre-MOT it was absolutely fine - i.e. no noise, and it was obviously okay enough to pass the MOT on everything else.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Mike

creeks and knocks, the cars full of them!

ive been trying to work out a creek/knocking sound coming from the rear right side and as yet ive not found it.

It could be the top mounts, it has a hard rubber ring around the top, if its worn it can allow the metal to tap the wheel arch.

Could be the shocks or unseated / damaged springs, the hand brake line might be lose, or some wires tapping away in a pillar, another one could be the heat shield. I think im going to swap the shocks and what not to the other side and see if the problem follows it rather then taking any more stabs in the dark.

At the very least try work out roughly where its coming from, but bare in mind sound travels!
