hi guys,

i have a focus 2004 mk1 phase 2 estate 1.6 petrol. about a month ago i noticed that when driving (once the auto choke has finished doing what it does and the idle goes to normal) that when the car slows to a stop, the revs go low and the car rumbles. also when ive driven the car for about 20 mins and park up, with it out of gear and just idling, the revs drop below 1000 and then they flick back up again. then it drops and then flicks up again and keeps doing it.

im guessing its a rough idle. im waiting for a new air filter to be delivered as i have seen there can be a few causes so i thought i would start with the cheapest lol

i had a crappy peugeot in the past and it had 'idle surge' which seemed to be sorted by changing the camshaft sensor.

any ideas what to try next if the air filter change doesnt sort it?

    Idle control valve needs replaced or coil packs faulty.you shouldnt sit with the car idling for 20 mins to be honest ide start with the idle control valve its cylindrical held on with 3 10mm bolts on the right hand side of the engine with a connector going into it

    sorry, i meant after driving for 20 minutes and get back home, once ive parked the car before i turn the engine off i notice the revs go low and flick back up over and over.

    just watched a youtube video with a guide to cleaning the idle valve from a guy who has the same prob as me.
