Fiesta 1.25 Squeaky Clutch??

Featured Replies

Hi all

My early 2007 1.25 Fiesta has had a squeaky clutch / clutch squeal (I think) from the day I bought it more than 4 years ago and I am wondering what it could be.

I am about to have the timing belt changed due to the age and mileage (approx 90k) and I wondered whether this squeak should be investigated too.

I have read online some other people have had similar experiences and some have put it down to thrust bearings or slack alternator. But I just dont know if this is something a garage could rectify without being costly.

It happens regularly but not always when changing through gears 1 to 3, but not at higher gears, so basically not at higher speeds. And as I say it has been occuring for more than 4 years. This is not from the pedal though it sounds as though it is coming from the left hand side of the car.

Is it (niavely) just one of those things with my car or is it something that just needs adjusting or could it need replacing? I dont want to get a clutch change if it is totally unneccessary and not going to solve it.

The sound itself is a whir/squeal/squeak that lasts for about 1 second and only when taking your foot off the clutch pedal after changing gear. It is not something I can get it to do on cue nor is it something I can prolong by holding the clutch pedal down.

I have the car in for the timing belt change on Wednesday and would like to know if this is something to get checked out and if so to narrow it down so I dont get hit with hefty search/labour fees.

Thank you very much,

If it's been doing it for 4+ years and nothings broken leave it.

You may end up spending lots of cash to fix some insignificant fault.

It may well be something related to the timing belt so check after this has been done. Make sure they change all the pulleys as well.

Hi

I managed to replicate it. It is when i still have a little of the acceleration on when changing gears. So if clutch is pressed and being released and i have foot pressing accelerator as well it happens.

So i guess the car has an issue that means it squeals when i do some lazy gear changing.

If i ensure theres no acceleration at the same time as touching clutch pedal there is no noise.

The pulley part you mention, would they not change them given iv booked it in for a timing belt change?

Thanks

Could be the way you change gear. As for the pulleys I've known some garages literally just change the belt and nothing else.

Just started having this issue (quirk?). Glad it could be my lazy gear gmfhanegs as I had the clutch replaced 5 months ago (October).

Since my last reply. I drove my fiesta again, turns out the squealing happens even if the clutch is fully engaged. I'm talking gear selected, clutch up, foot off clutch, then acceleration.

Could it just be pulleys? Or do I need to start thinking about a jew clutch again?

When I had it changed last it had been slipping for 2 years. But the clutch plate was pretty worn down when they mechanic showed me.

I'd say that car is beans cans now
