Engine Management Light / Starting Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

My engine light is on, only noticeable problem is a very slight lumpy idle. I'm planning on changing the plugs, leads and coil pack next week in the hope this fixes it. The code was for cylinder 4 misfire but the garage couldn't detect a misfire. They reset the code but it came back on about 5 days later.

The second problem is tonight the car failed to start, absolutely dead. No indication of any problems, all dash lights looked fine. When i turned the ignition key nothing at all happened. After about 3 or 4 turns of the key it started as if nothing had been the matter. I think this may be related to the clutch safety switch on the clutch pedal - any ideas? Can the switch be tested without the problems being present?

Before jumping to the idea that a coil leads and plugs will fix it youre problem may be the coil wiring no coil no spark no start

So if the coil wiring is at fault then a new coil may be needed? I was planning on changing the coil anyway. To be honest i was going for the cheapest option first, Plugs then leads and then Coil pack if needed.

When i tried to start the car there was absolutely nothing, no clicking, no turning over, nothing just silence. I don't think the starting problem is related to the coil hence the thought of the clutch safety switch on the clutch pedal.
