Front Tyre Wear

Featured Replies

I have owned my Focus for just over a year now and when I bought it the front tyres were new.

I have covered just over 12,00 miles since then.

I have noticed that the near side front tyre is worn noticeably more then the off side.

Could I have a suspension problem? and if so would it be expensive to repair? I sometimes get a noise from the front end when starting off but not all the time

Have you had the tracking checked? This would be my first port of call

the wear is across the tyre,it has worn notably more than the other side

We call that 'Swindon Syndrome' here as that happens on a lot of cars around here, due to the roundabouts.

If get the tracking checked first that's usually the root of that sort of problem. I agree with the round about post too as that could be an issue. If the tracking is fine then yes get the suspension checked asap just for piece of mind.

The offside is quite unusual for the Focus. Tends to be on the inner edge of the tyres.

I've just had to replace a pair of Avon ZZ3's because the inside edge was worn to about 0.5mm, going upto around 4mm on the outer edge :(

The tracking was out by 4mm, but talking to tyre fitters and tracking guys (2 separate garages), the Focus is a sod for it anyway.

Had the tracking checked and it was 3 degrees out on the front near side all the rest were ok inc back. see if this improves woolly steering
