Central Locking Problems.

Hi guys I'm new here just looking for abit of advice. I have a 2000 focus which I purchased around 3-4 months ago. The central locking was always a bit of a pain I had to press the button a few times to get it to work or get really close to the car before it worked. I assumed the battery in the key was on its way out?? But then I had times when I would be driving and the car would all lock or unlock on its own. Now the central locking has stopped completely and I have to manually lock every door... But it still does the locking and unlocking itself when driving. Any ideas what it could be and how much it will cost to fix? :( thanks in advance. Frustrated!
